We often get questions regarding the feasibility of free “@gmail.com” addresses in a business setting.
The two mail options aren’t worlds apart, but here are a couple of key differences:
- Custom domain name: Free accounts use “@gmail.com”, paid accounts may use “@yourcompany.com”
- Centralized management: Anyone that knows a specific free account user name and password may essentially take that account and never allow the company to retrieve it. If Jane is terminated and she alone knows the password to email@example.com, the company will have little ability to reset the password and continue receiving the company critical messages that might have been destined for firstname.lastname@example.org. With paid accounts, all management happens centrally with no risk of account loss.
